Iowa Medicaid Education Disbursement (IMED)

Since 2014, the Iowa Association of School Boards^® has collaborated with ClaimAid, a health-care consulting service, to provide the Iowa Medicaid Education Disbursement (IMED) program. IMED assists school districts in obtaining Medicaid reimbursement for certain services provided to Special Education students who are Medicaid eligible. School districts are able to file claims on behalf of eligible students for reimbursement of the cost of providing these services.

These services include personal health and behavioral health services, usually provided by a paraprofessional, nursing services, counseling services, and specialized transportation services.

The IMED program will assist your district by determining which students and services are eligible, training your staff to complete the steps that will ensure reimbursement, and filing your claims with Iowa Medicaid.
